Nothing will change after the elections? Not quite. There were no big changes in the traditional right-left blocks. It was mainly about nationalism and so in Catalonia the relatively small CUP was almost strengthened with a doubling of votes. The CUP stands politically behind the CDR, which can probably be understood as the main organization responsible for the riots in Barcelona. They collected almost a quarter of a million (244,754) votes in Catalonia.
The overwhelming success of the ultra-right VOX did not go unnoticed in the National press. VOX is supported by all the Spanish nationalists.
The separatists want the independence and total integration of the Catalan majority into what they see as Catalan culture.Footnotes
VOX 's version of Trump's „America first“ seems to be „Spain first“ and pursues a policy that would ultimately lead to the suppression of the Catalan minority, who want Catalonia's independence for the same reason.
You do not have to be a prophet to foresee negative and violent developments. In each riot, one party will blame the other for the other and vice versa. Would that be right?
That would not be right. This development has taken place because the two major parties, the PP and the PSOE, have totally failed in the national question.
Without much effort it can be said that the PP without ideological blinkers have always acted only in the interest of business. Depending on this, sometimes in favour of separatist parties, sometimes against them. Frequently and, too often steeped with corruption. Almost never in the interest of their voters.
This is different with the PSOE. In Madrid, it represents Spanish national interests. In the Autonomous Communities, it represents regional national interests barely veiled. They still want to deceive each and every voter in an effort to get hold of their vote. Here, too, the voters' interest can be ssen as secondary.
What to do? I don't know either. All I know is that we must continue to seek dialogue and shed light on the situation. I will continue to pursue this task with my blog. This always includes the principle that one should follow the trail of money in politics as well as in every major criminal case.
Recently Antonio Jimeno reported on this blog about „independence as a business“ and reported from Catalonia. This is no different in Valencia. Valencian President Ximo Puig is holding the nationalist education minister Vicent Marzà to enforce the regional language Valenciano against the Valencian majority. Almost daily, the Valencian press is now reporting on the fact that the brother of Ximo Puig may be involved in corruption.
„Since the arrival of the Consell del Botánico (Valencian Coalition or goverment, HJ), Ximo Puig's brother's media group has received important public support from the governments of the Comunitat Valenciana, Aragón and Cataluña. From 2015 to the present, the Comunicacions dels Ports and Mas Mut Produccions alone have received EUR 520,184 in grants for various programmes of the Generalitat Valenciana. EUR 369,390 of the aid is earmarked solely for the promotion of Valenciano“.
If you want to know more about the millions that have flowed into these businesses since 2016, you can read about it in „Las Provincias“. The tables published there are universally understandable, you don't even have to know Spanish. Just keep a cool head and keep a close eye on who is contributing to the misery.
