Two major crises and their contradictions are coming to a head.

In Germany, the Corona measures are being tightened again, while in many other countries normality has long since returned. „The Times“ even headlines: „Little by little the truth of lockdown is being admitted: it was a disaster“

The sanctions in the war against Russia threaten to lead to a deindustrialisation of Europe and corresponding social tensions. A hot nuclear war is not ruled out just because things have gone „well“ so far.

Can it be justified under these circumstances to worry about language imposition and Catalan separatism?

As an incorrigible optimist, I hope for peace soon, an end to the sanctions and a related end to the energy crisis, and the restoration of democratic normality. That's where I do what I can. Unfortunately, that is not much and there is still time. Time in which I can point out to this not-so-important conflict with language imposiiton and separatism. For the children who go to school in the autonomous regions with a regional language, the effects of the daily language imposition are not unimportant at all!

The holidays in Spain are long, but now school is starting again. This also means that the conflicts that seemed to have fallen asleep during the summer are becoming acute again, even though they were not and were all too often overshadowed by the big problems.

The Catalan government continues to refuse to implement the rulings of the Spanish supreme court and also the Catalan supreme court to give Catalans at least the pitifully few 25% instruction in Spanish. Where families in Catalonia at least want to insist on this right, this separatist government even supported actions against these brave citizens last year. „The Generalitat calls for protests against the harassed family in Canet“. The family in Canet had only demanded the modest 25% instruction in Spanish for their child.

But pressuring the citizens is not enough for the Catalan government. It claims that there are „new circumstances“ that speak against the application of the 25% ruling. „And the 'new circumstances' to which the government of (Catalan President) Aragonès refers are the approval by the Catalan parliament of a decree-law and a law regulating official languages in education.“ In other words, the courts have rejected our law that we do not grant 25% Spanish, so now we have made a new law rejecting the 25% again.

These waves of daily petty warfare surged back and forth. In response, the Catalan Platform of Organisations for the Defence of Bilingualism had responded on 22.08. with a call for a demonstration on 18 September.

There are still dozens of incidents of the small war described above to report, but that would be boring. The 18th of September is used as an occasion in many Spanish cities to demonstrate against the language imposition. The call fits in well with the actions that the organisation „Hablamos Español“ has planned for that day in several Spanish cities and in Brussels. I will participate without being distracted by more important things and I will report.
