There is growing resistance against the so-called „Ley del Plurilingüismo“ (Multilingual Law), many AMPA's (parents' associations) have already protested) and are calling for demonstrations on Saturday 18 January.
Parents have long called it „Ley del Timolingüismo“ (Fraud Language Law) because, under the pretext of strengthening the teaching of English, more and more Valenciano is being taught in schools instead of Spanish.
The Catalanization of Valencia is to be promoted further and further and the most important tool for this is to indoctrinate the young people and deprive them of good skills in their mother tongue. The majority in Valencia, as in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, have Spanish as their mother tongue, but the separatist forces in the regional governments want to enforce that pupils are taught only in Catalan or Valenciano.
For this reason, the so-called Ley del Plurilingüismo was passed under the ultra-right education minister in the PSOE-led Valencian government coalition, Vicent Marzà, this reduces the proportion of Spanish lessons in many schools to 25% - 0% and aims to promote the teaching of English instead.
It is no secret that there are not enough qualified English teachers in the Comunidad Valenciana to provide even 10% English lessons. It is also not about multilingualism, which would be welcome. Not only the many non-Spanish parents in the Comunidad would be grateful if there were actually reasonable English lessons. English and Spanish are, next to Chinese, the most spoken languages in the world and open up many opportunities for the children.
The concentration of the lessons in Valenciano with this law makes it difficult or impossible for parents who do not know Valenciano to help their children in school matters such as homework. Indoctrination at school, for example in history, is harder for them to recognize and all of a sudden they find their children at demonstrations for Valencian independence. In Catalonia, among the separatist supporters, there is always a large proportion of fanatical young people, who are no longer receptive to debate/arguments.
Already last year the AMPAs had called for a demonstration on January 18th in 5 cities of Valencia. The organisation Hablamos Español supports this call for the free choice of languages and the right of parents to decide on the language of instruction for their children.
The demonstrations will be extended to 13 locations and I call on all my readers living in the Comunidad Valenciana to participate in these demonstrations. I will help with the organisation and I ask you to contact me so that we can form car pools.
