Politics in Spain is currently dominated by the question of whether Sanchez will succeed in forming a government. To do so, he will have to make compromises with the Catalan ERC.
It is pointless to indulge in speculation about this, in a few days we will know the result. This blog will continue to provide important information about the Catalan conflict.
The organisation Hablamos Español calls for demonstrations against the language requirement at 5 locations in the Comunidad Valenciana on 18 January.
Here follows the translation of the call[1]:
„On January 18th, the Association Hablamos Español will carry out and participate in different mobilizations in the Valencian Community, as part of its fight for the freedom of choice of language and against the Law of Plurilingualism[2], which is generating so much rejection in families and teachers.
The Association Hablamos Español, presided by the teacher Gloria Lago, is carrying out an intense work in all Spain, especially in the Autonomous Communities with co-official language, and in a very popular way in the Valencian Community, where many families now see that the imposition of the Valenciano language in the school has already reached their children.
There is special concern among families and students of ESO[3] and Bachillerato[4], who will be imposed a considerable number of subjects in Valenciano. Hablamos Español supports and advises many people in the three provinces of the Community, is giving legal support to several AMPAs[5] of the valencian community and has registered a Popular Legislative Initiative for the Freedom of Choice of Language before the Valencian parliament.
Next Saturday, January 18th, it will also carry out several mobilizations and pressure acts in the streets, which have already been communicated to the Government Delegation and are shown in the attached poster. In Requena and Utiel concentrations have been called in collaboration with the platform of parents and students for linguistic freedom, in Castellón, Valencia and Alicante, there will be points of protest and in Orihuela we Hablamos Español will go to the demonstration called by FAPA Gabriel Miró, for which it has chartered buses in order to move collaborators from Torrevieja and the region of the Vega Baja. We will offer more information as the date approaches.“
